Despite Questionable Weather, Head Out From Corporate Housing Minneapolis For The Twins' Home Opener

We have had a harsh winter, as you know if you have been here in corporate housing Minneapolis.  Now that Spring activities are starting, it is getting to be a bit of a hinderance.  The Minnesota Twins have their home opener slated for this coming week, and we got a surprise snowstorm just a few days in advance, which puts a bit of a wrench in the gears.  This was no minor dusting, we had just under a foot of snow.  We are used to April being tough weather-wise for baseball.  Luckily, because the Twins staff knows things like this happen, they were prepared.  They cleared off the seating areas with hot water, and shoveled the field which was protected under a tarp.  It helped that just after it snowed the temperature shot up to 40, and we are hoping for good weather for the game!

High Speed Chase This Morning, But Still Safe in Corporate Apartments Minneapolis

There was a bit of a scare this morning when police went on a high speed chase that ended badly.  We make sure our corporate apartments Minneapolis are in good, safe neighborhoods, and our city is fairly safe, but this is just a reminder to always be careful.  Early in the morning a car was stolen and when the police found it the driver wouldn’t stop, and a high speed chase ensued.  Rather than pull over, the 18-year-old thief, Sean Brown, continued the chase until he lost control of the car and drove into an apartment complex.  Luckily the two people in the house he hit only sustained minor injuries, but it could have been much worse.

All of our hearts here at CHS go out to the families of the children killed recently in a fire in north Minneapolis.  We don’t just provide corporate apartments Minneapolis, but are also local…members of the community.  We truly cannot express how sad we are to hear about the accident.  No one is quite sure yet how the apartment fire started, but the family’s loss is tremendous.  The father managed to save a few of the kids before the smoke became too heavy.  Five, however, were lost, between ages 18 months and 8 years.  The community has opened up to them, with over 200 attendees to the funeral.

Apostle Island National Lakeshore - Great Weekend Getaway From Corporate Apartments Minneapolis

Check Out The Bakken Museum While In Minneapolis Corporate Housing

Galactic at First Avenue

Minneapolis Sculpture Garden

If you like parks and also like art then Minneapolis has a great spot for you - the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.  This city park is a fusion of nature and culture.  IT spreads out over 11 acres and houses over 40 sculptures taken from the Walker Art Center.  There are also wonderful flower gardens to see!  You can take a nice picnic there and wander through the garden.  The most famous work in the park is the cherry on the spoon.

Jerry Seinfeld at the Orpheum - 3 Shows!

Are you a big comedy fan?  If so, do we have a show for you!  Seinfeld was one of the most popular tv shows of all time, and the man himself, Jerry Seinfeld will be doing a few performances here live!  His shows will be on the 16th and 17th of January at the Orpheum Theatre.  He’s doing three shows, one Thursday night at 7:00pm and then two Friday (at 7:00 and again at 9:30).  You definitely don’t want to miss this one!

Minnehaha Park

One of Minneapolis’s little gems is Minnehaha Park!  If you haven’t seen it yet, you really should.  It is a wonderful place for a walk, jog or bike.  There are also some places for picnics wish public restrooms.  The highlight of a trip to Minnehaha Park is the waterfall!  This is actually a tributary to the Mississippi River!  Most cities aren’t as lucky as we are to have such beautiful nature in the city.

Hiawatha Line

One important thing when coming to a new city, especially if you will be here for a significant amount of time, is to learn how to get around.  We are fans of the Hiawatha LRT line!  Public transit has some great advantages, and we see them come into effect here.  The Hiawatha light rail (named for the famous Native American), is very affordable, serves important areas, and is clean.  A ride will cost you $1.75, and you can hit many important stops including Target Field, the Mall of America, and even the airport!

Minneapolis Mayoral Race

Minneapolis is bound for an interesting week the week after next as voting day rolls around.  The mayoral race in particular looks like it will be a crazy one.  The incumbent mayor is not running, and there fee for filing is only $20, which has led to 35 candidates, not all of them very serious.  Let's hope things work out well and we end up with a good leader for our city.  Get out there and make your vote count!

Prince's Breakfast Pajama Dance Party

One of Minneapolis's most famous residents is making headlines again.  Prince has a house here and will be hosting a party this weekend.  A donation of $50 gets you in and it is called "The Breakfast Experience Pajama Dance Party".  It starts early in the morning and commemorates the release of his new single, "Breakfast Can Wait".  We are sure it will be a wild time…so wild we can't even begin to imagine what might happen.

Museum of Russian Art

One of the more unique museums in Minneapolis is the Museum of Russian Art.  It will cost you under $10 to see a great collection.  It is one of the few museums in the country dedicated solely to Russian artifacts and art.  They have a permanent collection as well as temporary exhibits that showcase different parts of Russian history and art.  It is open every day of the week.

Billy Bragg at The Cedar

There are a lot of wonderful concerts coming up this month!  One of our favorites will be in the city, and he doesn't do many tours on this side of the pond that often.  We highly recommend you check out Billy Bragg's show at The Cedar.  He'll be playing there on Thursday, September 26th.  Tickets are either $28 or $30.  He has a very unique style and you are sure to enjoy the show.

Knott's Camp Snoopy

Do you want to see a very unique amusement park?  Check out Minneapolis-St. Paul's Knott's Camp Snoopy.  It is a park based entirely around Charles Schultz Peanuts cartoons.  Schultz was a native of Minnesota.  There are over 50 different rides in this indoor amusement park.  There is even a roller coaster!  Be sure to give it a go.

Mill City Museum

If you want to learn a little local Minnesota history, head over to the Mill City Museum.  It is relatively new, having opened only 10 years ago.  It is a museum located in the former Washburn A Mill on the Mississippi River.  You can learn all about flour mill operations and and the rise of industry in the city.  The mill was originally built in the 1870s and is part of the National Register of Historic Places.  The museum showcases local art and exhibits from city history!

Viking's New Stadium on Hold

The Minneapolis Vikings are expecting a new stadium.  The groundbreaking is scheduled for only a few weeks from now, but it seems there may be a slight delay as Minnesota decided to investigate the backers of the project to ensure their financial stability.  The Wilf family, which runs a real estate business, are funding the new stadium should it go through.

New Children's Mental Health Clinic

A new mental health center for children is poised to open in north Minneapolis.  Construction has begun, and the project has been lauded as highly important for those local kids who really need help.  The expansion of the Washburn Center for Children will cost $24.5 million, and should help to provide top care for many sick children.

Minnesota protects public transit operators

In Minnesota there is now a higher penalty for those who attack bus drivers and light rail conductors.  It escalates the crime to fourth-degree assault.  The law takes effect this week.  To be charged with a  misdemeanor not only does it take into account bodily assault but also any projection of bodily fluids.  The law comes in response to a high rate of drivers being spit on.  It is important to protect public transit drivers, since they not only are responsible for themselves, but for the safety of all of their passengers as well.

Minneapolis Targets Sustainability

Minneapolis is looking to become one of the country's foremost cities on the energy conservation and sustainability front.  There is a big agreement that was just announced between CenterPoint Energy and Minneapolis Energy Options to try to achieve this goal.  CenterPoint Energy is a major provider in natural gas and other energy sources to the area, while Minneapolis Energy Options is a local community group focused on the environment.  Let's hope their initiative produces great things for the city!

Our Best to Russia

The news is abuzz today with stories of a meteorite that struck Russia.  It caused terror for those living nearby, and injured many as glass was blown out of windows.  We hope that serious damage hasn't been done to the nearby nuclear storage and disposal facility or the chemical weapons disposal facility.  It could prove even more grave for locals if those two areas are damaged.

State Lotto Sales Up

There has been a story in the news this week that the Minnesota State Lottery sales have hit yet another record.  This is the fifth consecutive record breaking year for ticket sales.  Many people, including the officials overseeing the lottery were a little surprised to see $520 million in sales (up $15.6 million from last year).  Not everyone is so shocked though.  Analysis by academics has indicated that gambling, especially in the form of the lotto spikes in hard economic times.  Many people buy a ticket with a little extra money when making other purchases and it gives them hope, even though the odds may not be very good.

Minneapolis Swimming Pools

There is still some summer left, so be sure you enjoy it right with a trip to the swimming pool!  There are some very different but equally great options in Minneapolis as far as water parks and swimming pools go!  

Jewish Community Center -

The JCC is a great option if you want serious swimming.  Their lap pool facilities are great.  They also have a full compliment of great swim lessons for the kids.  They keep it clean and well staffed, so you are sure to get good service.

Jim Lupient Water Park -

If you are looking for fun more than anything, this may be your spot.  They have four slides of various kinds as well as all kinds of other water features.  It is very accessible!  If you want to lap swim, you can, but they also have log walks and water volleyball.

St. Louis Park Rec Center -

Similar to Jim Lupient Water Park, this is not just a swimming pool.  They have a mixture of 4 different kinds of slides and a few other features.  It is a great place for kids and there is plenty of space to catch some sun.  The wade in entry keeps it nice and safe for everyone!

Veterans' Grave Markers Go Missing

This is one of the saddest things we've seen lately.  Each military veterans' grave is marked with a bronze marker.  There has been a recent trend where thieves had been going around taking the markers from cemeteries.  There is now pressure to move markers to homes, rather than cemeteries, but to have to do this would be a sad reflection on the community.  It appears as if they are stealing the stars for scrap metal but it is truly disappointing because they really do not have much intrinsic value, and instead they are taking away something of great sentimental value from the families of the departed.  If you see something, please report it.

Pizzeria Lola -
Located in Linden Hills, Pizzeria Lola is an amazing pizza place.  Your delicious pie will come straight out of their gorgeous copper pizza oven.  They have all kinds of unique, gourmet recipes for you to test out!  We also recommend the olive oil and salt ice cream!

Pat's Tap -
Pat's is a great new place.  It only opened last September and has been a huge hit.  The great beer and high quality food, along with a little skee-ball make this place a top notch gastropub.  They have almost 20 local draft beers to try out.  They are also in Linden Hills.

Sea Change -
For great fresh seafood downtown you can't beat Sea Change.  They are extremely creative and have a great atmosphere.  They pay a lot of attention to where they get their seafood, buying from environmentally friendly fisheries.

Barley John’s Brew Pub-

This low-key brew pub might not look like much but their beers are astounding. It is certainly a neighborhood bar with a hidden secret. This is for people who are just looking for good beer, no gimmicks and no need for an overly classy atmosphere.

Saffron-

If you’re looking for the perfect happy hour, then Saffron is the place to go. It is located in the Warehouse District and it is one of the Twin Cities’ Originals. Their cocktail menu is exciting and unique. Enjoy the food at Saffron, as well, because you’ll be hard-pressed to pick just one thing on their delicious menu.

The Bulldog-

This beer haven has spread all over the Twin Cities’ map and rightfully so because their beer list is divine. It has great American food and there are over 100 different beers to choose from. They also have shuffleboards and flat screens so you can spend hours in their beer den.

Tiger Sushi-

This is one of the largest sushi bars in the Twin Cities and it is fitting for a trendy night out in Uptown. The drinks are good and with the wraparound glass façade, it is a place to see and be seen.

This is an event open to everyone.  It is very cheap too, only $6!  There will be various expositions, seminars and discussions on how to improve your health and general well-being.  There are nutrition lectures and plenty of demonstrations by people from all sections of the health industry including massage therapists, trainers, beauticians and more.  This is a great opportunity to have some fun and educate yourself on natural methods that lead to greater health benefits.

Midwest Mountaineering Outdoor Adventure Expo -

Head to Midwest Mountaineering for a fun time at their outdoor expo.  They have all sorts of activities from a great program of presenters on various experiences in the outdoors around the world, to films from Banff Mountain Film Festival to great food and items on sale.  This event has happened 52 times already so it promises to be a wonderful one.  We highly recommend the world famous Banff showings and the demos are always great.  Also be sure to take advantage of the deals on equipment while you can.
