Walk On By…

Frequent business travelers, especially “Road Warrior” types who are away from home for long periods of time, know how tough it is to keep in shape when work is the priority morning, noon and night. But if you are fortunate enough to be located temporarily in Minneapolis, there’s no excuse not to squeeze in a walk or a run to keep fit. And in Minneapolis, you are never more than a few blocks away from a great place to walk or run.

Mississippi West Bank
If you’re downtown, the riverfront is a great place to walk. Start at Minnehaha Park south of town and follow the river up to Old Saint Anthony. With very little traffic in the way and plenty of river views and history to soak up, it’s a great, convenient route for walking or running!

Learn While You Walk
If you’d rather combine your exercise with a history lesson, the City of Minneapolis offers guided walking tours during the summer months. These tours are generally conducted on the weekends, although if you are free during the week there are some scheduled then too. Check out the local architecture, great scenery and historic landmarks at locations throughout the city. For specific tour information, dates and details, check out the 2011 Minneapolis Summer Walking and Biking Tours page.

Skyways and Tunnels
Even during the cold, snowy winter months, or when conditions are at their worst in Minneapolis, the downtown tunnels and skyways provide the perfect safe place to power-walk or run. There are miles of connected loops and routes to explore, extending out from downtown in all directions – so you’ll never get bored.

Go Fish!

Staying in Minneapolis for an extended period of time for business? If you find yourself with a day off or even a few hours, why not treat yourself to some well-deserved relaxation at one of the local fishing spots? Especially during the summer months, there are many beautiful lakes to choose from, as well as the Mighty Mississippi. There are also plenty of bait and tackle shops in the area to outfit you properly for your excursion.

Where to go? How about these suggestions:

Cedar Lake
Located in the chain of lakes region at Cedar Lake Parkway and Basswood Road (yes you can catch bass there) Cedar Lake offers tree-lined shores and a fishing dock on the west side.  Anglers also have the opportunity to catch northern pike and muskie!

Lake Harriet
A beautiful lake in the Chain of Lakes , Lake Harriet has 344 acres of water and 2 fishing docks. For an extra treat, plan breakfast or lunch at the Bread & Pickle for some healthy and delicious food grown locally. You can find Lake Harriet at 4135 West Lake Harriet Parkway in Minneapolis.

Minnehaha Falls Park
Prefer to fish the river? Then check out the catch and release walleye fishery area where the Minnehaha Creek flows into the Mississippi. If you’re staying in Minneapolis during the spring, you can also catch crappies and stripers under the wooden footbridge nearby. The park is located at 4801 South Minnehaha Park Drive in Minneapolis.

While you're enjoying the beautiful weather and the stunning scenery, don't forget to work on your story about the "one that got away".
