Galactic at First Avenue

Is the winter too cold for you and you need a bit of a warm up?  You can get it on Friday, January 31st at First Avenue.  At 7:00pm one of the hottest bands from New Orleans will take the stage - Galactic.  Driven by the technical drumming of Stanton Moore, this band is sure to fire things up Southern style!

Winter means it is basketball time, so you should go catch a Timberwolves game.  They are in a tough conference and have had a middle of the road season so far and need your help!  They have a lot of games, so you have plenty of opportunities to head out to a game with some friends or coworkers, grab a drink and enjoy your evening.

Minneapolis Sculpture Garden

If you like parks and also like art then Minneapolis has a great spot for you - the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.  This city park is a fusion of nature and culture.  IT spreads out over 11 acres and houses over 40 sculptures taken from the Walker Art Center.  There are also wonderful flower gardens to see!  You can take a nice picnic there and wander through the garden.  The most famous work in the park is the cherry on the spoon.

Jerry Seinfeld at the Orpheum - 3 Shows!

Are you a big comedy fan?  If so, do we have a show for you!  Seinfeld was one of the most popular tv shows of all time, and the man himself, Jerry Seinfeld will be doing a few performances here live!  His shows will be on the 16th and 17th of January at the Orpheum Theatre.  He’s doing three shows, one Thursday night at 7:00pm and then two Friday (at 7:00 and again at 9:30).  You definitely don’t want to miss this one!

Minnehaha Park

One of Minneapolis’s little gems is Minnehaha Park!  If you haven’t seen it yet, you really should.  It is a wonderful place for a walk, jog or bike.  There are also some places for picnics wish public restrooms.  The highlight of a trip to Minnehaha Park is the waterfall!  This is actually a tributary to the Mississippi River!  Most cities aren’t as lucky as we are to have such beautiful nature in the city.

Hiawatha Line

One important thing when coming to a new city, especially if you will be here for a significant amount of time, is to learn how to get around.  We are fans of the Hiawatha LRT line!  Public transit has some great advantages, and we see them come into effect here.  The Hiawatha light rail (named for the famous Native American), is very affordable, serves important areas, and is clean.  A ride will cost you $1.75, and you can hit many important stops including Target Field, the Mall of America, and even the airport!

Local Company Vies For Super Bowl Ad

Intuit, a small software developer is sponsoring a free Super Bowl ad for a fellow small business.  One of the four final entries is a local company out of Wrenshall!  Locally Laid Egg Co. is the only pasture-raised egg producer on the commercial level in Minnesota, and we are rooting for them!  Voting ends the 1st of December.

Minneapolis Mayoral Race

Minneapolis is bound for an interesting week the week after next as voting day rolls around.  The mayoral race in particular looks like it will be a crazy one.  The incumbent mayor is not running, and there fee for filing is only $20, which has led to 35 candidates, not all of them very serious.  Let's hope things work out well and we end up with a good leader for our city.  Get out there and make your vote count!

Prince's Breakfast Pajama Dance Party

One of Minneapolis's most famous residents is making headlines again.  Prince has a house here and will be hosting a party this weekend.  A donation of $50 gets you in and it is called "The Breakfast Experience Pajama Dance Party".  It starts early in the morning and commemorates the release of his new single, "Breakfast Can Wait".  We are sure it will be a wild time…so wild we can't even begin to imagine what might happen.

Dakota Jazz Club & Restaurant

One of the great places for you to check out in Minneapolis is Dakota Jazz Club & Restaurant.  It started over in St. Paul and is now here in downtown Minneapolis.  This supper club has been around for almost 30 years.  They serve amazing food brought to you by talented chefs.  Additionally they manage to draw a lot of big name acts to play the club.  It is the perfect spot for a night out.

Blood, Sweat & Tears @ Medina Entertainment Center

We have a great throwback concert for you this month.  On Friday, October 18th you should take a trip down to Medina Entertainment Center here in Minneapolis if you want to have a 70s/80s kind of night.  That night Blood, Sweat & Tears will be the featured act.  They are great and are sure to play a lot of classics you will recognize!  Doors open at 7:30.

Museum of Russian Art

One of the more unique museums in Minneapolis is the Museum of Russian Art.  It will cost you under $10 to see a great collection.  It is one of the few museums in the country dedicated solely to Russian artifacts and art.  They have a permanent collection as well as temporary exhibits that showcase different parts of Russian history and art.  It is open every day of the week.

Billy Bragg at The Cedar

There are a lot of wonderful concerts coming up this month!  One of our favorites will be in the city, and he doesn't do many tours on this side of the pond that often.  We highly recommend you check out Billy Bragg's show at The Cedar.  He'll be playing there on Thursday, September 26th.  Tickets are either $28 or $30.  He has a very unique style and you are sure to enjoy the show.

Knott's Camp Snoopy

Do you want to see a very unique amusement park?  Check out Minneapolis-St. Paul's Knott's Camp Snoopy.  It is a park based entirely around Charles Schultz Peanuts cartoons.  Schultz was a native of Minnesota.  There are over 50 different rides in this indoor amusement park.  There is even a roller coaster!  Be sure to give it a go.
